New ESG digital tool introduced in Abu Dhabi

Container News

The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, and Abu Dhabi Maritime, a division of AD Ports Group, has introduced MARSDNA—an innovative digital solution developed by Maqta Technologies Group to support maritime sector stakeholders in achieving their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.

This cutting-edge tool offers an intuitive and user-friendly experience, enabling maritime businesses and organizations to assess their performance against national and international ESG standards. MARSDNA provides tailored, near-instant recommendations to help users enhance their sustainability efforts.

MARSDNA invites users to complete a free questionnaire available on both the Abu Dhabi Mobility and Abu Dhabi Maritime websites. It uses the responses to grade users’ ESG progress and generates a comprehensive, downloadable report connecting them to additional information and outlining their path to greater success.

Accessible through the Abu Dhabi Mobility and Abu Dhabi Maritime websites, MARSDNA features a free questionnaire designed to evaluate users’ ESG progress. Based on the responses, the tool generates a detailed, downloadable report offering actionable insights, additional resources, and a clear roadmap for improvement.

For Abu Dhabi Mobility and Abu Dhabi Maritime, MARSDNA—short for Maritime Sustainability DNA and inspired by the Arabic term for “observatory”—marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable practices within the industry.

Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group, stated: “We are proud to introduce MARSDNA, a pioneering tool with the potential to revolutionise ESG initiatives in our sector. By empowering local organisations with the resources and strategic framework they need to make meaningful gains in sustainability, we can uplift the whole of our maritime community, foster innovation, and set a global standard for progress. I look forward to seeing MARSDNA in action and to hearing how our partners apply its recommendations.”

By integrating metrics from various ESG frameworks, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the International Maritime Organization’s standards, MARSDNA simplifies ESG monitoring. This zero-cost, engaging platform is accessible to organizations of all sizes—from small and medium enterprises, which may lack the resources to create their own sustainability strategies, to larger corporations seeking to optimize their ESG initiatives.

In its initial phase, MARSDNA targets five key maritime value chain segments: shipping companies, port and terminal operators, freight forwarders and cargo beneficiaries, marine and offshore services, and marina operators. Future phases will expand the tool’s reach to encompass the entire maritime sector.

Dr. Noura Al Dhaheri, CEO of Maqta Technologies Group and Digital Cluster, AD Ports Group, mentioned: “MARSDNA exemplifies AD Ports Group’s dedication to championing sustainable development through world-class digital solutions. Digitalisation is a potent force in driving collective progress, helping users conceptualise and achieve environmental objectives. MARSDNA will help Abu Dhabi unlock its potential to become a global leader in maritime sustainability.”
