A ship manager based in Mumbai, India, was one of the three individuals sanctioned under the new EU sanctions package against Russia, which was revealed on Thursday.
The measures aim to prevent Russia from continuing its war against Ukraine, the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief, Kaja Kallas, said.
Additionally, 9 companies were also blacklisted for involvement in shipping Russian crude and petroleum products and conducting illegal oil transfers at sea, according to sources.
One such company is Vigor Marine Services LLP, which was sanctioned because two of its ships had carried Russian energy products, the EU said in a statement.
The scope of these activities includes offering insurance-related services, offering ship-to-ship transfers, and tampering with the Automatic Identification System, which shows a ship’s location in real time.
Sanctions were also imposed on a trading company based in Dubai that supplied Russian crude to India, especially to Nayara Energy Limited, which is already mentioned in the EU blacklist of companies.
A few other individuals and companies have also been sanctioned
