Companies join forces for Turkey’s first biogas-to-methanol project

On 19 March, Wison Engineering signed a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for Turkey’s first biogas-to-methanol project being developed by ITC and WasteFuel.

The ITC-WasteFuel project plans to utilize biogas generated from the waste treatment facilities of ITC in Ankara to produce green methanol with this marking Turkey’s first biogas-to-methanol project. Wison Engineering, as announced, will provide FEED design services for the project.

The successful signing of the FEED contract for the ITC-WasteFuel Ankara Green Methanol Project in Turkey marks a substantial step forward for the project. As a low-carbon, renewable fuel, the use of green methanol will effectively reduce the carbon footprint of the shipping industry and support the sector’s energy transition.

This project is not only designed to deliver a low-carbon fuel, but also provide an innovative application for the 1.8 million tons of municipal waste the site is currently receiving from the Ankara metropolitan area.

…said Yavuz Kantur, General Manager, ITC Turkey.
