Kaguya reaches LNG bunkering milestone
Japan’s LNG bunkering vessel Kaguya completed its 200th ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation in Mikawa Bay on 30 September 2026.
The Kaguya LNG bunkering milestone comes nearly six years after the vessel began operating in the Chubu region. Kaguya entered service in October 2020 as Japan’s first LNG bunkering vessel.
The vessel supplies LNG directly to LNG-fuelled ships alongside quays, piers or at anchorage. Its customers include K Line’s LNG-powered car carrier Century Highway Green.
Kaguya LNG bunkering operations expand
K Line conducts the bunkering business through Central LNG Shipping Japan Corporation and Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation.
The two joint ventures involve K Line, JERA Global Energy Solutions, NYK Line and Toyota Tsusho Corporation. Together, the companies have developed an LNG marine-fuel supply network in Japan’s Chubu region.
K Line said it will continue expanding safe and reliable LNG bunkering services while supporting efforts to reduce shipping emissions.
Compared with conventional heavy fuel oil, LNG can almost eliminate sulphur oxide and particulate emissions. It can also reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 80% and carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 30%, according to K Line.
