Contship signs agreement to acquire Tarros Group

Contship has signed an agreement to acquire the Tarros Group through its subsidiary Sogemar. The deal will bring together two major logistics operators with established networks across Europe and the Mediterranean.

The acquisition covers the entire Tarros Group, including its shipping, port handling and inland transport businesses. Contship aims to combine these activities with its existing network to strengthen logistics connections between Europe and North Africa.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions. Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Expanding Mediterranean transport connections

Founded in 1828, Tarros operates across 16 countries and 31 ports in the Mediterranean. The company employs 751 people and serves around 2,700 customers through its door-to-door transport network.

The agreement includes Tarros S.p.A. and its foreign subsidiaries. It also covers Terminal del Golfo, Car Box, Compagnia Marittima Servizi and Med Logistics Malta.

Contship plans to connect these operations with Sogemar’s intermodal network and its terminals in Italy, Egypt and Morocco. The combined activities are expected to support maritime and inland transport services along major trade corridors between Europe and Africa.

Alberto Musso, Chairman and CEO of Tarros Group, said the agreement would support the company’s long-term development.

“The agreement with Contship aims to create a Euro-Mediterranean platform by bringing together two major operators with complementary characteristics: a strong European identity on the one hand and a long-standing presence in the Mediterranean on the other,” said Musso.

Matthieu Gasselin, CEO of Contship, also highlighted the benefits of combining the two companies’ operations.

“We are convinced that the complementarity between its services, Sogemar’s intermodal network and the Group’s terminals in Italy, Egypt and Morocco will enable us to expand our offering and strengthen our presence along the North-South and South-North logistics corridors between Europe and Africa,” said Gasselin.

According to a regulatory disclosure by EUROKAI, the purchase price is in the mid-double-digit million-euro range. The transaction will be financed through a combination of equity and debt.

The companies expect to complete the acquisition before the end of 2026, subject to the necessary approvals. Further updates will follow as the transaction progresses.
