Innovative AI Initiative Enhances Safety at Tram Crossings

in the UK, several tram networks are set to introduce cameras at pedestrian crossings, with AI analyzing the footage to pinpoint safety enhancements.

This initiative,led by the Light Rail Safety & Standards Board in collaboration with Starling Technologies,aims to observe real-world crossing behaviors. The specific camera locations remain under wraps to prevent any alteration in user actions.

Craig O’Brien, Head of Engineering Safety & Innovation at LRSSB, mentioned on March 24 that “the insights gained will fuel a larger conversation about the safety of non-motorized users and could influence future policies and technologies aimed at improving light rail systems across the country.”
