Cruise ship collides with container ship in stormy-battered German port

The TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 3 was involved in a collision with a containership while attempting to depart Bremerhaven, Germany, on Sunday October 25, 2026.

The cruise ship was preparing to depart for the Canary Islands, assisted by tugboats.

A TUI Cruises spokesperson wrote in a post on Facebook: “The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority. We are therefore very relieved that, according to current information, no one has been injured.”

Bremen police said the vessel was caught by a gust of wind and drifted toward two containerships. In video clips of the crash a loud impact can be heard as passengers shout in alarm and run away from the side of the vessel.

Police have since confirmed that three vessels were involved. No injuries have been reported.

The damage was above the waterline, none of the vessels took on water, and no injuries were reported, according to police.

“We will provide further information as soon as verified findings are available,” a company spokesperson said.

One of the vessels involved has been identified in maritime industry reports as the 2023-built MSC Victorine whilst it is unclear if the second ship was hit.

Viral footage of the collision was posted on social media by passengers on board the cruise ship.

The cruise ship subsequently returned to the pier, where specialists began assessing the damage. “Immediately following the incident, technical teams and experts began a thorough inspection of the ship,” TUI Cruises said in a statement provided to media.

TUI Cruises confirmed on Monday that it was cancelling the cruise in light of the crash. According to the operator, the cruise ship requires repair work at a shipyard.

The cruise liner notified its customers that it had made the decision to cancel the scheduled voyage to the Canary Islands. “We know how much our guests were looking forward to this cruise and deeply regret the inconvenience this causes. At the same time, we are convinced that this is the only responsible decision to ensure our high safety standards are maintained.”

“The cruise ship subsequently abandoned its voyage and returned to the cruise terminal,” confirmed Bremen police in a statement.

Bremen Water Police have launched a probe to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
