Davie Adds Six Canadian Icebreakers to Growing Arctic Shipbuilding Portfolio
Davie Shipbuilding has formally secured a US $8 billion fixed-price contract to build six new icebreakers for the Canadian Coast Guard, providing new details on one of the largest pieces of Canada’s Arctic fleet renewal.
The award follows Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement earlier this week of the six-ship program at Davie’s shipyard in Lévis, Quebec. The new contract puts the vessels under a fixed-price structure, with Davie assuming greater responsibility for managing costs and execution as it moves into series production.
Construction of the first Program Icebreaker is scheduled to begin in 2027, with deliveries continuing through the 2030s.
