

On Tuesday, Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that its forces had struck five ships at two Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.
Specifically, three cargo vessels loaded with supplies for the Ukrainian military were reported to have been hit.
The three cargo ships and one tanker were struck in Pivdennyi, also referred to as Yuzhny. The other cargo ship was reported to have been hit in the nearby port of Odesa.
According to Russia, its forces also struck port infrastructure in Pivdennyi and Odesa as well as fuel storage facilities in the port of Chornomorsk.
Importance of Ukraine’s Black Sea Ports
The three Black Sea ports are important for Ukraine’s grain exports including, wheat, corn, barley, and sunflower oil. Most of the country’s grain exports pass through Odesa, Pivdennyi, and Chornomorsk.
