GXO and Agility Robotics expand humanoid robot deployment across US warehouses

GXO Logistics and Agility Robotics have announced plans to expand their partnership by deploying humanoid robots at two additional logistics facilities in the United States.

The expansion will bring Agility Robotics’ Digit robots to GXO warehouses in Statesville, North Carolina, and Lebanon, Tennessee. Deployments are expected to begin in early 2027, supporting e-commerce fulfillment and repetitive material-handling tasks.

The announcement, made on October 26, builds on the companies’ existing commercial partnership. Their collaboration has already demonstrated the use of humanoid robots in active warehouse operations.

At GXO’s Flowery Branch facility in Georgia, Digit robots have moved more than 100,000 totes since their initial deployment. The robots work alongside existing warehouse automation, transferring containers and placing them onto conveyor systems.

The latest agreement marks a further step towards expanding humanoid robotics beyond a single operating site.

GXO expands commercial use of humanoid robots

GXO and Agility Robotics began collaborating in late 2023 through a proof-of-concept project at the Flowery Branch warehouse.

In June 2024, the companies signed a multi-year Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) agreement. This introduced Digit robots into live warehouse operations under a commercial arrangement.

The deployment also included Agility Arc, a cloud-based platform designed to manage robot fleets and integrate them with warehouse systems.

Since then, the companies have continued developing the technology through practical operational experience.

“Innovation is most powerful when it delivers practical solutions that create value for our customers and our people,” said Patrick Kelleher, CEO of GXO.

Kelleher explained that the partnership has focused on turning emerging technology into operational improvements. He also highlighted the potential of humanoid robots to support employees and customers.

The next phase will introduce Digit 4 robots at the two additional GXO facilities. The companies then plan to transition to Digit 5 once the newer model becomes commercially available.

Digit 5, unveiled in September 2026, is designed to operate safely alongside people and perform a wider range of industrial tasks.

Agility Robotics prepares for wider commercial deployment

The expansion comes as Agility Robotics increases its efforts to support larger commercial deployments.

Across its commercial operations and customer programmes, Digit has accumulated more than 65,000 hours of real-world operation. According to the company, this experience has helped shape the development of its next-generation robots.

“GXO was the first customer to put Digit to work in live operations under a commercial agreement, and expanding to additional sites is the clearest signal that the value is real,” said Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics.

Johnson added that customers are increasingly focusing on where humanoid robots can be deployed at scale rather than whether the technology can operate in warehouses.

To support future growth, Agility has developed RoboFab, a manufacturing facility in Salem, Oregon. The 70,000-square-foot site is designed for an annual production capacity of up to 10,000 robots.

The company is also expanding its software, deployment and support capabilities. These investments aim to support the wider adoption of humanoid robotics across industrial and logistics operations.

Meanwhile, Agility is preparing to become a publicly traded company through a proposed business combination with Churchill Capital Corp XI.

The transaction is expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to completion. Following the proposed combination, Agility Robotics is expected to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol AGLT.

For GXO, the latest expansion reflects its strategy of introducing advanced automation into existing warehouse operations.

The companies have not disclosed the number of robots planned for the new facilities or the financial value of the expanded agreement.

However, the move from one operating warehouse to multiple sites represents a further stage in the commercial deployment of humanoid robots within the logistics industry.
