Hapag-Lloyd applies new GRI from Indian Sub and Middle East to North America

German ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd has announced a General Rate Increase (GRI) or General Rate Adjustment (GRA) for cargo transported from the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East to North America.
This adjustment applies to 20’ and 40’ dry, reefer, and special containers, including high cube equipment. The new rates will take effect for all containers gated in full from 15 March 2025 and will remain valid until further notice.
The GRI/GRA adjustment will increase to US$1,000 per container for shipments from the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East to North America’s East and Gulf Coasts. The geographical scope for this adjustment includes the following regions:
The Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East comprise India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. North America includes both the United States and Canada.
Hapag-Lloyd has also announced an increase in ocean tariff rates for shipments from the Indian Subcontinent to Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.
This rate adjustment applies to sailings beginning on 1 March 2025 and will affect cargo transported from Pakistan and India to North Europe, as well as the Western and Eastern Mediterranean regions.
The geographical scope of this adjustment is as follows:
North Europe includes Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Norway, Finland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Estonia, Iceland, and Luxembourg.
The West Mediterranean region covers Spain, Portugal, Italy, Algeria, Morocco, Malta, and Tunisia.
The East Mediterranean region comprises Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Montenegro, Libya, Romania, Cyprus, Slovenia, Lebanon, Turkey, Ukraine, and Egypt.
