Greece-based Asso.subsea has signed a contract for the construction of its new DP-2 cable laying vessel. The vessel, to be named Althea, will be built at the China Merchants Heavy Industry shipyard, at the Mazhou Island site in Shenzen.
With the ability to manage up to 12,000 tons of cable in 1, 2 or 3 carousel divisions, the Althea will be able to support multi-section operations.
The delivery date for the vessel Althea is set for the second quarter of 2027.
The vessel will have an accommodation capability for 120 people and will be capable for operating at draughts as light as 4.5 meters in full DP-2 mode with a cable payload of more than 50% of her maximum capacity.
It will be equipped with a hybrid diesel and battery power generation plant, whilst its methanol-ready engines will be capable of running on bio-fuels.
Asso.subsea specializes in submarine cable installation, protection, repair, and support operations.
Since 1985, Asso.subsea has been a contractor for Greek-related cable projects for both land and sea works.
