Turkish ports record 13.5 million TEUs in 2024

Turkish ports handled 13.5 million TEUs in 2024, representing an 8% increase over 2023 volumes.

Dynamar reports major differences between the ports, with the MSC hub at Tekirdag growing by 20% to 2 million TEUs, while nearby Ambarli lost 5% to dip to 3 million TEUs.

On the Mediterranean side, Aliaga port achieved a significant 34% growth, attracting a substantial amount of cargo from Izmir, which saw its volumes decline by 10%.

At the same time, Iskenderun increased its box volumes by 21%, growing at the expense of nearby Mersin, which suffered a 3% drop.

“As a result, Iskenderun managed to fully recover from the devastating 2023 earthquake -and then some- posting its highest throughput since 2020, when it lifted 710,600 TEUs,” commented a Dynamar analyst.
