Greece’s retail sector turnover recorded a 2.4% increase in 2024, reaching

Greece’s retail sector turnover recorded a 2.4% increase in 2024, reaching 71.57 billion euros compared to 69.89 billion euros in 2023, according to data released by the country’s Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). Excluding the sectors of vehicles, food, and fuel, retail trade turnover in 2024 stood at 25.97 billion euros, reflecting a 1.8% rise from 25.5 billion euros in 2023.

The sectors with the largest contribution to the annual turnover in 2024 included retail trade in non-specialized stores selling mainly food, beverages, or tobacco, which accounted for 27% of the total.

Car and light motor vehicle sales followed with 11.7%, while retail trade in motor fuel at specialized stores contributed 11.1%. Pharmaceutical products in specialized stores represented 6.6%, and clothing retail in specialized stores stood at 5.1%.

In absolute figures, the sectors that recorded the highest increase in turnover in 2024 compared to the previous year were non-specialized stores selling mainly food, beverages, or tobacco, with a rise of 0.60 billion euros, followed by car and light motor vehicle sales, which increased by 0.26 billion euros.
