Olympic inks order for construction vessel pair at CMHI in Shenzhen

Norway’s Olympic Subsea has signed an agreement to build a pair of construction vessels at the CMHI shipyard in Shenzhen.

The Stig Remøy-led company said the newbuilds, scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2027, will be versatile, flexible, and the most energy-efficient vessels in their class.

Olympic’s fleet expansion will serve both renewable energy and oil and gas sectors.

The shipowner didn’t disclose any financial details but noted that the project will generate contracts worth approximately NOK 1bn for Norwegian businesses, including NOK 700m for the maritime cluster in Northwestern Norway.

The vessels, designed by Kongsberg Maritime in close collaboration with Olympic, will feature the UT7623 SEV (sustainable energy vessel) design and “exceed the requirements of the Paris Agreement by a significant margin.”

Stig Remøy, Olympic’s majority owner, said: “These vessels will set a new standard for energy consumption and leave an extremely low climate footprint.”
